Senior Road Design Manager

Weston & Sampson is seeking a Senior Road Design Manager to lead road and highway design and project delivery efforts for key transportation infrastructure projects across the Southeast.

Location:

Charleston, South Carolina.

• Manage and lead road design projects from concept through construction.
• Oversee technical design teams, ensuring compliance with AASHTO, DOT, and local standards.
• Serve as the primary client liaison for project delivery, quality, and performance.
• Review design calculations, plans, and specifications.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and project managers.
• Support proposal development and business growth through technical leadership.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in North Carolina and/or South Carolina or ability to become registered within six months (strongly preferred).
• 10‑15 years of road design experience, including leadership of large‑scale DOT or county/municipal transportation projects.
• Experience managing or being "in charge of all aspects of design" for a project (geometric design, typical sections, drainage/hydraulics, Maintenance of Traffic, etc.).
• Familiarity with state DOT standards, specifically North/South Carolina Department of Transportation design manuals and related regulations.
• Proficiency in relevant design software/tools (Micro Station, Open Roads Designer, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.).
• Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, leadership and mentoring ability, and ability to manage multi‑discipline teams.
