Maintenance Technician – Engineering

Location:

Charleston, SC Salary: $60,000.00 – $98,500.00

• Prepare designs and specifications for complex equipment or systems (e.g., heating system in an office building, solid‑state electronic components for instrumentation).
• Plan approaches to solve design problems.
• Conceive and recommend new design techniques.
• Resolve design problems with contract personnel and ensure compatibility with other system parts.
• Design and coordinate test set‑ups and experiments to validate preliminary design feasibility.
• Use untried measurement techniques to improve equipment performance.
• Advise equipment users on redesigns to solve operational deficiencies; plan and conduct experiments to develop systems characterized by:
• (a) difficult performance requirements due to conflicting attributes such as versatility, size, and ease of operation;
• (b) unusual combinations of techniques or components.
• Arrange for fabrication of pilot models and determine test procedures and design of special test equipment.

• U.S. Citizenship and active DoD Secret clearance.
• Associate’s degree in engineering technology, math, or science; or formal electronics training (technical school, Class A/B military electronics/communications school, four‑year apprentice program, or high school diploma/GED).
• Soldering experience required.
• Five (5) years with degree/formal training or seven (7) years with high school/GED of practical experience in design, preparation, and modification of engineering documents and drawings.
• Experience constructing components, subunits, or simple models; troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions; following specific layouts and scientific diagrams to build and package devices; conducting tests that may need minor modifications.
• IT experience and certifications preferred.
• Review work for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.
