Job Description Summary
Seeking an individual, preferably with microsurgical experience for a position in neuroimmunology focused on basic and translational research. The laboratory centers around the complement system and neuroinflammatory mechanisms, investigating acute and chronic neuroimmune responses following stroke and traumatic brain injury. Projects utilize mouse models of stroke and traumatic brain injury, including the murine middle cerebral artery occlusion model, high-resolution and confocal microscopy, cellular and molecular immune profiling, therapeutic drug evaluation, and assessments of motor and cognitive functions.
The lab also develops novel transgenic animals for mechanistic studies and commercializes therapeutic approaches.
- Participate in projects involving surgical procedures on mouse models and preparation of brain sections for histology and immune microscopy.
- Perform high-resolution and confocal microscopy; evaluate mice using behavioral tasks.
- Conduct high-dimensional analyses of post-injury immune landscape and generate image-based computational analyses.
- Collaborate with other lab personnel on related projects, attend lab and project-specific meetings.
- Maintain records, lab notebooks, archives, and assist in manuscript and grant writing.
- Stay current with relevant literature.
- A Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent with at least two years of postdoctoral experience and evidence of scholarly activity (minimum five first-author publications).
- Preferred:
Ph.D. in biology or related life/health science with at least two years postdoctoral experience. - Experience with the murine middle cerebral artery occlusion model is preferred, but training can be provided.
Ability to perform job functions in an upright position, seated position, walking/mobile, climb stairs, work indoors, in cold temperature extremes, bend, twist at the waist, perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders, lift and carry up to 30 lbs., maintain vision and hearing acuity, use both hands/arms, perform fine motor tasks, and maintain chemical and environmental safety compliance. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license, computer literacy, work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
