UNIV - Diagnostic Medical Physics Resident - Department of Radiology

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Department of Radiology and Radiological Science, has received initial accreditation by CAMPEP for our Diagnostic Radiology Medical Physics Residency Program and is actively recruiting for a Diagnostic Medical Physics Resident. This two‑year comprehensive postgraduate program is designed to provide clinical training and experience in imaging physics and to prepare residents for A  certification and independent practice of diagnostic radiological physics.

The primary focus is clinical training, experience, and educational activities. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2026, or shortly thereafter.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Rotate through nine focused rotations:
    General Radiology, Fluoroscopy, Interventional Radiology/Cardiac Cath Imaging, Mammography, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine & PET, and Imaging Informatics.
  • Conduct system performance evaluations and quality control, safety and compliance tests under the guidance of a qualified physicist.
  • Become familiar with institutional policies, state and federal statutes, and vendor recommendations.
  • Work autonomously during the second year of the program.
  • Attend and actively participate in monthly sessions with A ‑certified medical physicists, radiologists, radiology residents, technologists, and administrators to discuss medical physics issues and events.
  • Complete special and/or research projects directed by the rotation preceptor or program director.
  • Submit proof of completion of all graduate degree requirements before commencing the program.
Education & Qualifications
  • Graduate from a CAMPEP‑accredited MS or PhD program (PhD preferred), or
  • Possess a PhD in physics or related discipline and have completed a CAMPEP‑accredited certificate program, or
  • Possess a PhD in physics or related discipline and have satisfactorily completed courses equivalent to those in a CAMPEP‑accredited certificate program, as determined by the CAMPEP Graduate Education Program Review Committee (GEPRC).

  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected (continuous).
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand (continuous).
  • Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance (continuous).
  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors (continuous).
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception (continuous).
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities (continuous).
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction (continuous).
  • Ability to hear and understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet (continuous).
  • Must be able to maintain bi‑lateral hand movement skills and perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (continuous).
