Summary:
Prepares prescribed solutions and administers anesthetic following specified methods and procedures. Informs physician of patient’s condition during anesthesia. Performs pre‑ and post‑anesthesia patient visits and documents anesthesia notes on patient records.
Job Summary /PurposeProvide anesthesia care to adult ambulatory surgery patients in collaboration with the anesthesiologist, adhering to established standards of clinical practice. Responsibilities include the proficient use of anesthesia machines and related equipment, assistance in the safe transport of patients, and maintenance of accurate and thorough patient records. Actively participate in departmental education and training initiatives, engage in continuing education programs, and consistently demonstrate a high level of professionalism and clinical competence.
Deliver resuscitative care as needed in emergency situations. This position is based at the West Ashley Medical Pavillion (WAMP), which serves an adult outpatient population across several specialized service areas, including Orthopedics, Interventional Radiology (IR), Electrophysiology (EP), and Endoscopy. The facility features state‑of‑the‑art Operating Rooms (ORs), and Procedure Rooms designed to support high‑quality, efficient ambulatory surgical care.
- Must be a graduate of Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs approved programs of anesthesia, and certified, or recertified by the National Board on Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists, and insurable by the medical malpractice insurer of MUSC for the required limits.
- The minimum education requirement for those hired after March 1, 2019, is a master’s degree, or higher, with the concentration in Nurse Anesthesia.
- Must demonstrate current competency in the clinical privileges extended.
- Must be proficient in the operation of anesthesia equipment.
- Current knowledge in anesthesia practice.
- Must exhibit basic knowledge of safety in a health care facility.
- Knowledge and practice of universal precautions in patient contact is required.
- Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with surgeons, residents, anesthesia personnel, and nursing staff.
- Must be recognized as an APRN, or eligible, with current license to practice, or eligible to obtain practice in the state of South Carolina.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA), BLS for Healthcare Providers.
