Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro position on a general neurology and stroke unit requiring a SC or compact RN license and BLS certification.
Responsibilities- Work in a 23-bed inpatient General Neurology, Medical Stroke, and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit serving adult and geriatric patients
- Day shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Assignment requires 4-5 weekend shifts per 4 week period and participation in a holiday rotation
- Patient ratio is 1:5
- Float required within scope to similar units or sister facilities as needed
- Unit supports Comprehensive Spine and Epilepsy Center programs and admits overflow neurosurgical and spine surgery patients
- Nine private rooms are equipped for continuous epilepsy monitoring
- Uses Epic EMR system
- Provide specialized care to neurology, medical stroke, and epilepsy monitoring patients including those with Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular disease, and seizures
- Team supports additional overflow of neurosurgical and spine surgery cases
- Modules must be completed online prior to start, averaging 4 hours
- Will be part of an emergency response team during hurricane season (June-November); all travelers should be prepared for this assignment
- Scrub and dress code policy will be provided prior to start
- Holiday coverage is required as part of the schedule
- Candidates may only be considered for one unit or facility at a time
- Block scheduling can be requested but is not guaranteed
- Time off requests of more than 7 days or including holidays are subject to approval and may delay offer
- Active SC or multi-state compact RN license required and must be issued/active before start
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant RN experience required
- Certifications required: current BLS (AHA only)
- Certifications preferred: ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale
- Experience with Epic EMR preferred
- Must provide SSN and driver's license for consideration
- First-time travelers will be considered
- Applicants must reside at least 60 miles from the facility to qualify for travel status
- Candidates who were permanent or PRN MUSC employees must have a 1-year separation before returning as travelers
