Senior Highway Engineer

HDR seeks a Senior Highway Engineer to join our Transportation Business Group, designing resilient highways and infrastructure that support economic vitality and public safety.

• Serve in the lead technical role in the detailed development of urban roadway design projects.
• Perform quality assurance checks on major transportation projects on interstate and state highway systems.
• Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in an area of specialization that resolves problems of greater scope and complexity.
• Assume some project management duties and interact with clients as needed.
• Assume some project management duties as needed and have a fair amount of client interaction.
• Supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians as needed.
• Perform other duties as needed.

• 12+ years' experience in highway design.
• PE in West Virginia.
• Experience with urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout.
• Hands‑on experience using Open Roads Designer (ORD), LDD, or other CAD design software.
• Demonstrated hands‑on experience in all aspects of Highway/Roadway design projects with a focus on WVDOT projects.
• MS Office knowledge.
• Local candidates preferred.

• Bachelor's degree.
• A minimum of 10 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer PE or P.Eng).
• Demonstrated leadership skills, communication skills and ability to work with various teams.
• Project management skills desirable.
• Experience that includes urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans.
• Must have coordinated survey, grading, drainage and utilities; layout of various site items is a plus.
