Engineer - Environment - Environmental Protection - Kanawha Co.

Location:
601 57th Street, Southeast, Charleston, WV 25304.
This position is classified exempt and is not covered by the WV Division of Personnel merit system.
Nature of Work- Review preliminary engineering reports and facility planning studies for feasibility, constructability, and alignment with regulatory and community needs.
- Review project plans and specifications for wastewater and water treatment and distribution systems to ensure compliance with DEP regulations and design accuracy.
- Perform interim and final inspections of wastewater and water projects under construction, verify compliance, and approve change orders.
- Attend and conduct project‑related meetings (planning, pre‑design, design, pre‑construction, construction, town, public service district meetings, and public hearings).
- Review agreements and contracts between consulting engineers and clients.
- Participate in training courses and research to maintain knowledge of current construction practices, treatment technologies, design criteria, and costs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state, and local officials, the public, supervisors, and co‑workers.
- Write clear and concise reports.
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Operate a motor vehicle.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- Seven (7) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in engineering, including three (3) years as a licensed Professional Engineer.
- Experience must have been acquired after the bachelor’s degree and may have occurred before or after registration as a professional engineer.
- PSC salary exemption per West Virginia Code 24‑1‑1.
