- Collaborate with Medical Providers and Medical Assistants through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication.
- Exercise professional judgment to provide health‑care services, including applying X‑ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients of all ages.
The Radiologic Technologist (RT) works with medical providers and/or medical assistants with the examination and treatment of UPMC-GoHealth Urgent Care patients. The role performs technical procedures and applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. The RT also provides administrative support to ensure efficient operation of UPMC-GoHealth Urgent Care Centers.
Job Requirements Education- High School Diploma required
- Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technologist program required
- Experience in a clinical setting preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire (obtained through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association)
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration required at time of hire
- State licensure as a Radiologic Technologist required at the time of hire (if applicable by state law)
- Responsible for x‑ray services as needed
- Under the direction of the clinical provider, perform x‑ray services for patients by applying x‑ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients of all age groups from newborn to elderly
- Ensure patients are positioned correctly on or in front of equipment and protected during use
- May need to push patient in a wheelchair
- Inform technical staff of patient flow
- Prepare patients for examination, including conducting interviews to verify patient information, record medical history, and confirm purpose of visit
- Perform preliminary physical test (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalate critical cases to provider as needed
- Conduct point‑of‑care testing as needed (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG) and provide patient information to provider
- Responsible for maintenance of medical records and scanning charts to patient files
- Conduct courtesy call‑backs for patient follow‑up on care
- Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain QA/QC logs, troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed
Medical team support:
Collaborate with ordering/treating provider to determine which procedures or views will best assist in accurate diagnoses and treatment; support clinic operations to keep the center running smoothly.
Patient care:
Explain procedures to patients, ensuring comfort and safety, and answering questions.
Patient positioning:
Accurately positioning patients and equipment for optimal imaging results.
Image production:
Selecting proper ionizing factors by adjusting/setting radiographic controls to capture clear, high-quality diagnostic images.
