Position: Nurse 4 - Health - BPH - Office of Epidemiology & Prevention Services - Kanawha Co.

The Perinatal Hepatitis B Coordinator initiates and oversees active surveillance and case management activities concerning pregnant women with Hepatitis B and their unborn infants. Manages the care plan for infants born to mothers with positive HBsAg, ensuring timely post‑exposure prophylaxis, completion of the vaccine series, and post‑vaccination serological testing for hepatitis B virus. This includes tracking surveillance data, collaborating with birthing hospitals, and coordinating with local health departments, Child Protective Services (CPS), and pediatricians for comprehensive case management.

Executes identification of Hepatitis C virus for pregnant women and managing their infants. Identifies HCV‑positive pregnant women through lab reports or provider notifications. Coordinates with the Office of Maternal Child and Family Health to monitor perinatally exposed infants through linkage to care. Assists pregnant women with HCV in accessing appropriate medical care and treatment of hepatitis C virus and collaborates with case managers and community organizations to reduce barriers to care.

Educates OB/GYN, birthing hospitals, primary care providers, pediatric providers and parents/guardians on guidelines for HBV and HCV on prevention, testing, reporting, referral, and treatment for pregnant women and their infants. Participates in public health outreach to increase awareness of perinatal HBV and HCV transmission. Manages all operational tasks and priorities to ensure the successful achievement of the CDC Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program Grant objectives.

This includes managing the preparation and timely submission of all quarterly and annual grant reports and performance measures. Located in Kanawha County.

Training
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and four years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience as a registered professional nurse.
  • OR Successful completion of an Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university or a diploma nursing program and six years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience as a registered professional nurse.
  • OR Master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Special Requirement:
    Current West Virginia license or temporary permit to practice as a registered professional nurse.
