Database Administrator, Data Engineer
The Office of Shared Administration is seeking a Database Administrator 1 to join the Office of Management Information Services. The successful candidate will manage end-to-end database operations, from initial configuration and proactive monitoring to designing robust ETL workflows that support critical data integration across the enterprise.
The Database Administrator 1 will administer, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments on Windows platforms, managing the full lifecycle including creation, upgrades, patching, and decommissioning. This role leads system health and storage monitoring using native and enterprise tools to proactively troubleshoot complex issues. The incumbent performs advanced query, index, and resource optimization to ensure high availability, reliability, and peak efficiency.
Responsibilities include overseeing database security by managing logins, users, roles, and permissions while enforcing compliance, auditing, and governance standards to protect organizational data. The administrator will review, execute, and validate DDL and DML scripts while coordinating database change requests to ensure accuracy, risk mitigation, and thorough documentation.
The position is also responsible for ETL & Data Integration workflows. The role designs, develops, schedules, and maintains ETL workflows to support data ingestion, transformation, and loading processes using SQL Server–based integration tools. This includes monitoring and troubleshooting ETL job execution, resolving data quality issues, and implementing logging and error handling. The administrator collaborates with application and analytics teams to optimize data pipelines and align ETL processes with enterprise data governance and operational requirements.
TrainingSuccessful completion of an Associate Degree in computer science or related field from an accredited college, university or business school.
Substitution (Training)Two years of experience as a Database Administrator for Universal DB2, ORACLE, INFORMIX, SQL Server, SYBASE or any other multi‑user database management system on mainframe, mini, or client/server platforms may substitute for the required training.
ExperienceTwo years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in database administration and management work, with Universal DB2, ORACLE, INFORMIX, SQL Server, SYBASE or any other multi‑user database management on mainframe, mini, or client/server platforms OR four years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in programming and analysis work using any of a variety of programming languages, including two years of SQL experience and a variety of data storage techniques.
Substitution(Experience)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or related field may be substituted for the required training and the two years of experience.
