North End Music & Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) is a 501(c)(3) community music school and performing arts center located in Boston’s North End and Charlestown. NEMPAC empowers artists of all ages and abilities through private and group instruction, performance programming, and community outreach.
Position:Private & Group Music Instructors
We are hiring experienced instructors to teach a variety of instruments (piano, guitar, voice, violin, and others) in private lessons (3–5 students) and small group classes. Candidates will work with students ranging from ages 5 to 13, primarily, and may also teach older students.
Teaching ScheduleMonday–Friday afternoons/evenings (typically 2–7 pm); weekend mornings; additional days as studio grows.
Responsibilities- Teach private and/or small group lessons in your instrument(s).
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding homework, practice goals, and progress.
- Maintain consistency and quality in each student’s learning.
- Attend occasional faculty meetings and participate in session‑end recitals.
- Prepare students for bi‑annual recitals or “shares” and provide curriculum outlines for group classes.
- Proficient in instrument performance and instruction; preferred instruments are piano, voice, and/or violin.
- At least one year of teaching experience in private or small‑group settings.
- Comfortable working with students of all ages and levels and assisting with special events and recitals.
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
- Undergraduate degree in music performance or education strongly preferred (relevant experience may substitute).
- Commitment to making music education accessible to all community members.
- Valid U.S. work authorization (NEMPAC does not sponsor visas).
- $44–$47 /hr for 1:1 private lessons (dependent on experience and education).
- $50–$53 /hr for small group classes (dependent on experience and education).
- Employee/W‑2 status.
- Optional 401(k) enrollment with 4 % employer match.
- Use of NEMPAC instructional/studio space for rehearsing and practice.
