SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Special Education Related Services Director and in direct supervision of a Fully Licensed Master's Social Worker, and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of Eaton RESA, the school social worker specialist will provide direct and consultative social work services for students enrolled in general or special education programs to facilitate the student's needs in their educational program.

ESSENTIAL

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review student records to identify previous barriers and/or interventions including MiPSE, Power School, Skyward and SWIS data.
  • Conduct parent interviews to acquire socio-developmental information as needed for special education referrals.
  • Assist in the completion of social-emotional assessments for students suspected of having a disability within the required timelines under the supervision of a qualified school social worker.
  • Conduct functional behavioral assessments.
  • Shares report data and interpret evaluation results to parents and appropriate school personnel under the supervision of a qualified school social worker.
  • Contributes to the Present Level of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP), and development of IEP goals and objectives.
  • Consult with administration, staff and parents regarding student mental health and behavioral issues.
  • Work collaboratively with building teams and related service staff to assist with data based decision making and intervention planning.
  • Complete, process, and maintain a variety of administrative and legally required reports, records and information.
  • Provide direct individual and group support with eligible children (up to a caseload of 50 students with no more than 5 current ongoing evaluations)
  • Assist students in learning social skills and develop appropriate peer relations, as well as other student behaviors necessary for success.
  • Promote the knowledge and acquisition of skills regarding Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) and its benefits to the achievement of all students as embedded in a MTSS framework.
  • Assist in the collection and analysis on use of behavioral data regarding students in the
  • problem solving process for use in implementing school-wide, targeted and intensive PBIS supports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONSCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS (If Applicable):

Required

  • In the process of obtaining licensure as a school social worker in Michigan
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

Required

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and be in the process of obtaining a Master’s Degree in Social Work with School Social Work Approval.
  • Ongoing yearly progress and continued acceptance in the candidate’s Master’s in Social Work Program fulfilling all program requirements and obligations.
  • Successful completion of Master’s Program within 3 years of employment.

Desired

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of special education laws, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of child development and its relationship to learning and behavior.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with a wide age range of students and young adults.
  • Ability to provide instructional consultation and collaborate with other educational professionals on effective behavioral strategies.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality in dealing with staff and students.
  • Ability to work independently and within teams to accomplish goals and strategies.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with local district administrators, staff, parents, and students.
