Senior Assurance Accountant with Affordable Housing experience – hybrid, various NC locations
Join BRC as a Senior Assurance Accountant. This full‑time position involves both assurance and non‑assurance engagements and requires experience with affordable housing finance.
Responsibilities- Develop a command of GAAP, OCBOA, and related accounting principles and financial statement presentations.
- Obtain a thorough understanding of generally accepted assurance standards and common assurance procedures.
- Draft financial statements and reports in accordance with standards.
- Work with HUD mortgages, Section 8 rental assistance programs, rural development (538 insurance mortgages, 515 loans) and other affordable housing funding.
- Handle LIHTCs (Low Income Housing Credits) and bond‑financed affordable housing deals.
- Perform cost certifications.
- Supervise both assurance and non‑assurance engagements efficiently.
- Communicate with clients to receive required information with minimal disruption.
- Develop quality client relationships and loyalty.
- Employ technical skills, work quality, and professional and firm standards.
- Train staff accountants and review their work papers.
- Perform a broad range of accounting tasks so staff participation is kept to a minimum.
- Participate in planning and scheduling of client engagements/assignments.
- Meet time constraints and client deadlines.
- Evaluate performance and provide feedback to staff.
- Actively pursue CPA license if not already obtained.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree.
- Minimum 3‑4 years’ experience as a staff accountant in public accounting.
- HUD, rural development, LIHTC, cost certification, and bond‑financed affordable housing experience.
- CPA certified or candidate for the CPA exam.
- Membership in AICPA and/or NCACPA, as applicable.
- Excellent client service and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with computers and accounting software.
- Valid driver’s license and clean Motor Vehicle Record.
