FunctionThe purpose of the Project Engineer is to assist the Project Manager and the Project Superintendent in completing the assigned projects with quality, on time, and within budget, while representing Miles-McClellan to subcontractors and suppliers. The Project Engineer maintains and distributes construction documents, protects the company’s interests, and reports directly to the Project Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities- Coordinate the engineering and construction functions for the project.
- Obtain, distribute, and update plans and specifications to subcontractors and suppliers.
- Submit and obtain building permits and any additional required permits.
- Assist with obtaining the Notice of Commencement and Notice of Furnishing.
- Help develop and update project, enclosure, and site work schedules with the Project Manager.
- Create submittal, delivery, and finish schedules; call suppliers to expedite approvals.
- Participate in pre‑construction and weekly coordination meetings; prepare and distribute minutes.
- Assist the Project Superintendent with miscellaneous and rental purchases.
- Review submittals and shop drawings for contract compliance; expedite architect/engineer reviews.
- Assist the Superintendent with weekly scheduling and labor procurement.
- Support the Project Manager in invoice processing for owner and subcontractor payments.
- Hold trade pre‑construction and weekly coordination meetings with subcontractors.
- Issue bulletins and expeditiously obtain pricing from subcontractors; maintain bulletin log.
- Obtain owner change‑order pricing, deliver to architect, and follow up for approval.
- Issue change orders and cost adjustments to subcontractors after manager review.
- Maintain RFI log, forward architect replies to all trades, and support owner negotiations.
- Prepare as‑built drawings and forward to owners upon completion.
- Participate in Project Team and other relevant meetings that impact the company.
- Update plans and specifications with addenda, bulletins, or RFIs throughout the project.
- Create punch lists, coordinate punch list meetings, and ensure completion.
- Coordinate paperwork, approvals, and personnel for a life‑safety meeting.
- Obtain and forward occupancy permits to owners.
- Assist with final invoice and retainage request coordination.
- Schedule required owner training.
- Attend internal debriefing meetings.
- Follow up on warranty work as needed.
- Complete OSHA 10‑Hour safety training.
- Preliminary knowledge of construction methods, materials, and installation procedures.
- Understanding of building code requirements, construction costs, estimating, and engineering principles.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- B.S. degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management.
