Job Description

The Charlotte Community Health Clinic (CCHC) is a non‑profit agency whose vision is to provide a healthy community where all individuals, regardless of ability to pay, will have access to comprehensive, coordinated quality health care. The clinic provides quality, accessible primary care, behavioral health, and dental services to pediatric and adult patients from a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, including patients experiencing homelessness.

CCHC works in partnership with other community‑based organizations to meet the needs of the medically underserved.

Job Summary

Assists dentists in all aspects of dental care delivery, including advanced or specialized dental assistant duties.

Responsibilities
  • Assists dentists in all dental care phases, based on detailed knowledge of different dentists' techniques and preferences.
  • Assist with specialized dentistry, such as hygiene, restorative and oral surgery procedures.
  • Will communicate with the school-based program to navigate inpatient treatment.
  • Will perform complex or specialized radiography using Dexis, NOMAD, and Panorex.
  • Sets up and sterilizes exam rooms and equipment per universal safety precautions and other safety standards.
  • Manages all clinical supplies for both fixed and mobile site and manages inventory.
  • May instruct patients in proper oral health techniques.
  • Answers inquiries from patients (faculty, students, and staff) related to clinic administrative functions and schedules appointments.
  • May perform an initial assessment or triage incoming patients.
  • Assists in training new dental assistants.
  • Assists with DA‑Externships students.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Chair‑side assisting: assists the dentist in providing dental treatment.
  • Preparing and maintaining dental instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Collecting and recording patient health histories.
  • Patient management during dental procedures.
  • Instrument transfer.
  • Dental procedure isolation techniques.
  • Preparation of dental materials, cement, amalgam, composite, impression materials, etc.
  • Dental charting.
  • Prevention and management of dental or medical emergencies.
  • Inventory control and management.
  • Taking dental x‑rays.
  • Applying topical fluoride treatments.
  • Placing topical medications.
  • Managing the dental office infection control plan to meet OSHA, CDC, and ADA standards.
  • Instrument cleaning, sterilization/disinfection, and re‑circulation.
  • Dental treatment room disinfection.
  • Pouring impressions to make stone and plaster models.
  • Model trimming.
  • Fabricating mouth guards, temporary crowns, and custom impression trays.
  • Preparing casting models and dies.
  • Fabricating orthodontic retainers and other appliances.
  • Delivering patient personal oral care instructions.
  • Delivering community dental health presentations.
  • Planning and setting‑up health fair booths.
Education Requirements
  • Completion of a certified dental assistant training program. State RDA or CDAII.
  • Radiographic certification required.
Skills And Experience
  • Three or more years of clinical experience as a dental assistant is preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred.
