Project Architect - Higher Education - Charlotte
Hey! Join McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture as a Project Architect in our Charlotte, NC Higher Education Team. We are an award‑winning firm with eleven studios in the Southeast and we are driven by a single goal – to deliver functional, inspired design solutions that meet collaboration, constructability and environmental standards.
Responsibilities- Provide production support and review shop drawings, submittals, and respond to RFIs.
- Produce construction documents, revisions and addenda.
- Take responsibility for finished plans, specifications and approval of materials.
- Assist with budget management, design presentation materials and schematic‑design concepts.
- Provide professional architectural consultation for large, complex projects.
- Write specifications, conduct code research and analysis.
- Collaborate with engineers, consultants, contractors and clients.
- Assume project‑manager role as needed.
- Prepare project proposals, budgets, schedules and workforce projections.
- Supervise and guide design team, manage client relationships and maintain project records.
- Perform construction administration, review and certify contractor amounts, prepare change orders and facilitate project communications.
- Support business development activities.
- Perform other duties as directed.
- Bachelor of Architecture or equivalent.
- Registered as a licensed architect preferred but not required.
- Minimum five years of combined experience as intern or architect.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Revit and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience with Newforma Project Center, Newforma Project Analyzer (Planifi) and Bluebeam PDF Revu.
- Firm grasp of building technology fundamentals and code knowledge.
- Excellent time‑management, communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks and provide clear direction.
- Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Physical Demands:
The employee must occasionally stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, balance, kneel and lift up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations are available for disabilities.
Workplace Environment:
The employee may occasionally be exposed to hazardous conditions during construction site visits; otherwise the office environment is non‑hazardous.
