Primary Purpose of Department: The College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) at UNC Charlotte is one of the most comprehensive and innovative computing colleges in the country. With over 140 faculty and staff and 4,800 students, CCI graduates more than 1,300 Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. holders a year. The College is organized in four academic units:
Department of Computer Science (CS), Department of Software and Information Systems (SIS), Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics (BiG) and the School of Data Science (SDS). CCI has distinct research strengths in AI & Machine Learning, Cybersecurity & Privacy, Computational Bioinformatics & Genomics, Human-Centered Design, High-Performance Computing and CS education.

Job Responsibilities

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses with a typical teaching load of 3-3 (six courses per academic year)
  • Contribute to the design and development of accessible, ethical, engaging, and high-quality curricula at the course or program level, ensuring fairness and exclusivity
  • Engage in scholarly activities related to computer science education and continuously explore innovative technologies and pedagogical approaches to enhance student engagement and success
  • Actively participate in student mentoring and university service
  • Support the college’s mission and prioritize student-centered education in computing and related disciplines
Minimum Experience & Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience

Education: Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field.

Teaching & Scholarship: Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and student success, along with evidence of (or potential for) scholarly contributions to computer science education or pedagogical research.

Professional Engagement: Dedication to continuous professional development, potential for leadership in curriculum development, and willingness to engage in university service. Prior experience with online and in-person instruction, a publication record in the field, familiarity with Quality Matters (QM) standards, and strong collaborative and communication skills.

Prioritize for candidates who can teach courses in the new Online BA in Computer Science program and/or have experience in online instructions, course management and assessment and fostering student engagement and promoting multiple pathways to success in virtual learning environments.
