General Definition of Work

The CTE Teacher, Middle School Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Gateway and Business, under moderate supervision, performs instructional work with limited decision‑making discretion. The teacher provides leadership in an educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students, supervising, monitoring, and evaluating students while developing lesson plans to meet all needs. Employee carries out school‑based work to implement Board of Education policies under the principal’s direction.

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Schools. The district reserves the right to require you to work at other place(s) as reasonably required.

Essential Functions
  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere to the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards.
  • Assist school administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure. Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Create a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all students.
  • Plan and implement a program of study in Business, Technology, and Computer Science that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students. Encourage exploration of computer science concepts and skills through tangible, shareable, and personally relevant projects.
  • Teach knowledge of current industry practices, trends, and application of skills required for careers in related fields including computational analysis, physical computing, hardware design, and software and app development.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods.
  • Create a classroom environment that provides for student engagement and enables achievement of learning objectives.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, communicating these to students.
  • Establish learning objectives based on student needs, NCDPI requirements, Standard Course of Study, and district framework.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Diagnose learning challenges on a regular basis and seek assistance from central office staff as required. Maintain accurate records for IEPs and 504 Plans.
  • Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students, including those with disabilities and limited English proficiency.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Manage inventory of CTE course items, supplies, equipment, and tools.
  • Encourage exploration of learning opportunities and persevere through challenges.
  • Use appropriate techniques and strategies that promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to assess progress.
  • Assign and grade classwork and homework.
  • Act as test administrator for the North Carolina Test Program and fulfill requirements as designated in the NC Testing Program Handbook and related policies.
  • Observe and assess students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical needs on a regular basis.
  • Meet with parents/guardians to discuss progress, determine priorities, and encourage involvement. Confer with parents/guardians, counselors, and administrators to resolve behavioral and academic challenges.
