Position: Instructor - English for STEM

* Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are, however, covered by Worker's Compensation provisions.

However, any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions or designated as variable hour worker – i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods.

If they average 30 or more hours per week over a designated measurement period, they will be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan and will be notified of instructions.

Education:

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English, or related field.
  • At least two years’ experience in teaching ESL or EFL in a higher education or adult education setting
  • Familiarity with digital transformation concepts and other emerging technologies.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and intercultural skills.
  • Ability to design interactive, student-centered lessons.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in teaching English for Specific Purposes ( ESP ), ideally in STEM contexts
  • Background in STEM education or professional STEM environments.
Duties and Responsibilities About the Course

The English for STEM program is designed to strengthen students’ English communication skills through STEM-focused contexts. This innovative course emphasizes communication strategies essential for success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. To reflect the evolving nature of STEM industries, this year’s course also features a Digital Transformation component, preparing students to navigate modern, tech-driven workplaces.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging and innovative lessons focused on STEM vocabulary, English communication skills, and pronunciation.
  • Incorporate experiential STEM activities to reinforce language learning.
  • Guide students in the practice of essential communication tasks such as:
    • Expressing opinions; agreeing/disagreeing
    • Describing problems
    • Explaining features and functions of objects, gadgets, technology
  • Incorporate digital transformation concepts into the above three responsibilities, including:
    • Vocabulary & discussion around AI, IoT, cloud computing, and data analytics
    • Communication practice related to digital workflows, automation, and remote collaboration
    • Group discussions on how digital transformation affects communication, decision-making, and innovation in STEM fields.
  • Provide constructive feedback to support student growth in English proficiency.
