Join to apply for the Guest Teacher - Non-Certified role at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. This position fills teacher absences as assigned by the principal and performs complex work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures under the direction of the principal.

General Definition of Work

The Guest Teacher - Non-Certified, under moderate supervision, performs intermediate level work with limited decision-making discretion, providing a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher. The teacher will manage the classroom and provide instruction for students based on teacher-provided lesson plans, school-provided lesson plans, or grade/department level plans aligned to curriculum, for the entire school year at the building level.

Monthly Rate: $3,535.00
Full-time Temporary /10 months with benefits

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The district reserves the right to require work at other place(s) as reasonably required.

Essential Functions
  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Study and follow the curriculum and lesson plan as provided by the absent teacher or the principal.
  • Effectively manage the classroom and provide instruction for students based on lesson plans aligned to curriculum.
  • Apply various teaching techniques, including interactive methods and game-based activities, to encourage participation and facilitate learning.
  • Prepare educational materials, such as notes, exercises, and additional resources.
  • Assign classwork and homework.
  • Take attendance according to school policy.
  • Grade students' assignments and provide constructive feedback.
  • Report incidents regarding students' behavior in and out of the classroom.
  • Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, or any breach of the district's Code of Student Conduct to the school administration as soon as possible.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Oversee school equipment and ensure students use it properly.
  • Participate in grade-level meetings, faculty meetings, student intervention teams, and other committees normally assigned to the regular classroom teacher.
  • Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly.
  • Create an inclusive environment with positive communication.
  • Perform related work as assigned or required.

  • Ability to implement classroom management strategies.
  • Ability to work with student data.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Associate degree or two years of higher education equivalent to 48 credit hours.
  • OR ability to pass a formal assessment (ACT Workkeys and 96 hours) required.
Special Requirements
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings.
  • Minimum age 21 years old.
