The Department of Geography and Earth Sciences and the College of Liberal Arts and Science sat the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geography in Economic Geography with a specialization in Globalization. Weseek a dynamic scholar with research and teaching interests in global dimensions of the new economy and its embeddedness in metropolitan contexts who will complement the department’sstrengths in urban and economic geography, support the College’s initiative on Globalization,and interact broadly with scholars within the Department and across the University.

Wewelcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, and community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. The position willbegin August 15, 2016.

Required Qualifications:

(1) a Ph.D. in geography or related field at the time of appointment; (2) demonstrated excellence in scholarship; (3) expertise in Geographic Information Science,spatial data analytics and/or spatial modeling; (4) prior success in obtaining, or the demonstrated potential to obtain, external funding; (5) effective communication skills; (6) acommitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education.
Desired Qualifications include: (1) evidence based scholarship on global processes in urban settings; (2) ability to teach in a diverse classroom setting; and (3) an understanding of the
funding landscape of their disciplinary field and of interdisciplinary initiatives.
Applicants should explain how their research can be generalized across multiple geographic regions and demonstrate their potential to contribute to Project Mosaic, an initiative to enhance interdisciplinary social and behavioral science analytics across the University.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a robust and sustainable externally funded research program and to teach courses in economic geography at the M.

A.and Ph.D. levels, as well as appropriate undergraduate courses as needed. The successful applicant is expected to actively engage in the academic community of the Department of
Geography and Earth Sciences, demonstrate leadership through advising and mentoring students, and contribute service at the Departmental, College, University, community and

professional levels.
The Department of Geography and Earth Sciences is a diverse community of social and physical scientists comprised of over 30 faculty members and more than 100 graduate students
from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds. The Department’s mission is to create and disseminate scientific knowledge about the social and natural systems of the earth and their
interactions through scholarly research, teaching and service. The Department is committed to rigorous high-level research and excellence in teaching.
The Department of Geography and Earth Sciences offers undergraduate degrees in Geography,Earth and Environmental Sciences, Geology, Environmental Studies, and Meteorology. At the graduate level, the Department offers an M.A. in Geography, a Ph.D. in Geography and Urban Regional Analysis, and an M.S. in Earth Sciences. In addition, the department is a core participant in several interdisciplinary graduate programs on campus, including, Ph.D. programs in Public Policy (PPOL) and Infrastructure and Environmental Systems (INES), and the Master’sin Urban Design (MUD).

The Department houses the Center for Applied Geographic Information Science (CAGIS), Project Mosaic, and a Cartography Lab, as well as many Earth Science Labs.
