Energy Policy Assistant or Associate Professor

Position Number 004988. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, with a research and teaching focus on Energy Policy and Quantitative Methods. This nine‑month, tenure‑track appointment begins August 15, 2026. The selected candidate will be appointed as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor based on qualifications. It is a research‑intensive position with a standard 2‑2 course load.

The faculty member will be a core faculty member in the Public Policy Ph.D. program and will collaborate with UNC Charlotte’s Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) to advance the university’s innovation in the energy area.

Responsibilities

Engage in scholarly research focused on energy policy and quantitative methods; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in energy policy, public policy, and advanced quantitative research methods; advise and collaborate with Ph.D. students in the Public Policy program; serve as a core faculty member contributing to the interdisciplinary Public Policy Ph.D. program; collaborate with EPIC to promote research and innovation in energy.

Qualifications

Candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field at the time of appointment. Must have research and teaching expertise in energy and public policy, and the ability to teach both basic and advanced quantitative research methods. Must demonstrate research and teaching excellence. Preferred: experience with energy policy scholarship, quantitative research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
