- Minimum Experience/
Education:
A master’s degree in academic advising, student services, higher education, engineering, or a related field plus 2+ years of experience in a higher education student services setting - Preferred Experience, Skills, Training:
Attentive to detail, strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and multitask, excellent communication and interpersonal problem‑solving skills, ability to interact effectively with advisees, staff, and faculty, knowledge of federal and university confidentiality requirements, proficiency with Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint; working knowledge of BANNER, Banner Self Service, Canvas and Degree Works is a plus - Proposed Hire Date: 02/16/2026

- Provide academic advising to second‑year through senior‑year students, including transfers and matriculated first‑time‑in‑college students majoring in Mechanical Engineering
- Review degree progress of seniors for anticipated degree completion
- Review transfer credits and develop advising plans for new transfer students
- Process academic petitions to resolve transfer credits, requests for transient study, and other academic needs
- Assist with new student orientation
- Advise students regarding major course requirements, course selection, academic policies and procedures, and academic resources
- Track and intervene with students who have received multiple Early Alerts or midterm warning grades to assist them in adopting strategies for academic success
- Guide students in understanding and sequencing academic requirements, navigating academic policies and procedures, developing long and short‑term goals, preparing for course selection and registration, and monitoring academic performance and degree progression
- Monitor and advise students experiencing academic difficulty and/or those on academic probation
- Work autonomously in a complex, team‑oriented academic office with a significant advising caseload
- Master’s degree in academic advising, student services, higher education, engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 2+ years of experience involving student services in a higher education setting
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills, ability to multitask and prioritize
- Excellent communication and interpersonal problem‑solving skills
- Ability to interact effectively with advisees, staff, and faculty
- Knowledge of federal and university student confidentiality requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, Power Point
- Experience with BANNER, Banner Self Service, Canvas, and Degree Works (preferred)
- Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.) but are covered by Worker's Compensation provisions
- Any non‑permanent employee who works 30 or more hours per week for 3 or more months (cumulative of all positions, not a variable hour worker) must be offered a chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan within 30 days of eligibility
- Non‑permanent employees who work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions or designated as variable hour workers – e.g., student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods; if they average 30 or more hours per week over a designated measurement period, they will be offered the opportunity to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan and will receive instructions
- Temporary hourly workers (eligibility based on FTE, duration > 30 days) FTE .75+ (cumulative of all jobs) or measured full‑time are offered high deductible health insurance
- Temporary salaried workers (regardless of the FTE, duration > 30 days) reported as full‑time are offered high deductible health insurance
- The finalist will be subject to a criminal background check and/or a motor vehicle report
