Metallurgical Engineering Failure Analyst

Job Location s: US-NC-Charlotte

Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Failure Analyst who will be primarily responsible for the failure analysis inspections, operations, reporting and consultation services.

Salary: $85,000 - $120,000/yr DOE

Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain client contact for the purpose of market/account development, understanding customers' needs, building personal relationships, ensuring satisfaction, and maintaining a professional consulting image.
  • Review technical documents and construct a suitable scope of work. Prepare written proposals, schedule tests, analyze test results and prepare high‑quality reports.
  • Perform root cause failure analysis investigations on metallic components from aviation, aerospace, space, transportation, consumer products, industrials and energy industries.
  • Conduct metallurgical examinations / optical microscopy.
  • Use Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).
  • Use Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS).
  • Safely operate and maintain lab equipment in compliance with company requirements.
  • Estimate the work effort required and assist in the commercial breakdown of the work.
Skills / Qualifications
  • Experience and recognized qualification in metallurgy. Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Minimum of 3‑5 years experience in failure analysis.
  • Experience conducting and reporting root cause failure analysis.
  • Experience working with SEM / EDS (Scanning Electron Microscopy / Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy).
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 (Nadcap preferred) laboratory environment.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to assess and respond to client requirements in an appropriate manner, prioritizing customer service and professional partnership.
  • Ability to operate and function within a team, drawing on other expertise when required.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to different workloads and roles within the company.
