Overview

Experienced Environmental Engineer at WSP in the U.S. – Charlotte, North Carolina. This full-time role involves providing project assistance and guidance on multi-phase environmental work processes, including site investigation, remediation, corrective action strategies, managing brownfields redevelopment (vapor intrusion mitigation and environmental management plans), environmental permitting, and recommendations to protect air, water, and land resources. You will ensure projects are delivered with quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Responsibilities
  • Develop environmental site investigation and remediation strategies for a diverse client base (federal, municipal, commercial, industrial) and projects under programs such as Superfund, Brownfields, and Voluntary Cleanup.
  • Prepare technical scopes of work, schedules, and cost estimates for site investigation and remediation activities based on applicable regulations and client objectives.
  • Lead multi-media investigations, including subsurface boring and trenching oversight, groundwater monitoring, aquifer testing, multi-media sampling, and field mapping.
  • Analyze geologic, hydrogeologic, and analytical data collected during field investigations.
  • Evaluate remedial performance and direct O&M and system optimization activities.
  • Prepare technical reports (remedial alternative evaluations, feasibility studies, pilot test work plans, remedial designs, contractor specifications and bid documents, remedial performance evaluations, pre-design investigations, etc.).
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
  • Maintain quality control standards for measurements, statistics, and reporting.
  • Prepare and implement site-specific Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) and Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Remain current in latest environmental engineering techniques and emerging contaminants of concern.
  • Adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures; exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in environmental engineering.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and their application to environmental and project work.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of reducing and eliminating hazardous substances and mitigation programs.
  • Knowledge of environmental sampling and measurement techniques.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Self-leadership, attention to detail, results orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks, follow instructions, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office software, and quantitative tools.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to interpret testing results and data.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP policies on health, safety, and harassment.
  • Flexibility to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek, and occasional travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training (29 CFR ) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
