Do you like to solve problems that help others and provide the best support regarding materials possible to our products within Siemens Energy, especially for our Large Gas and Steam Turbine products?
The primary focus of this position is on the initiation and execution of testing programs to determine material properties and the technical development of material behavior methods. This can range from characterization of typical material properties to developing new material modeling techniques.
Within a network of materials engineers and utilizing your technical knowledge, you support material data quality improvement. In this context, you will play a decisive role while constantly moving forward our materials landscape.
How You’ll Make An Impact- Definition of material test programs and coordination of testing with internal and external workshops and laboratories.
- Evaluation of test results and creation of material property curves for component design.
- Identification of existing and new methodologies to describe material behavior.
- Definition and management of project schedule, milestones, and budget.
- Support of component design in urgent materials‑related testing concepts and consultancy.
- Inspection of specimens and fracture surfaces in the SE laboratories.
- PhD or Master of Science in materials science, solid state physics or similar field; several years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Deep understanding of materials science (e.g., alloy design, microstructural evolution, deformation mechanisms for metallic materials) and deep knowledge of materials mechanics and failure mechanisms and models; significant knowledge of steels and nickel‑base alloys.
- Understanding of gas turbine and steam turbine technology, experience in programming (e.g., Python, R, VBA), data analysis and basic FEA modeling.
- Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary research networks / project consortia and very good project management skills.
- Excellent team skills with effective communication & interpersonal skills to blend in a multicultural and cross‑organizational team; experience in handling multiple and urgent topics at the same time & setting priorities.
- Advanced English;
German is a plus. - Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
