Environmental Engineer, Water Engineer
HDR is looking for a Water / Wastewater Professional Engineer with experience in utility planning using hydraulic modeling to join our team of Engineers, Scientists and Project Managers to support projects for HDR clients in North Carolina and South Carolina. This position may be based out of our HDR offices in Greenville (SC), Raleigh, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Asheville, or Wilmington (NC).
Responsibilities- Develop and calibrate water and wastewater hydraulic models, perform GIS data analysis, alternatives analysis, preliminary engineering, cost analysis, and capital project development.
- Participate in client interaction in project meetings and presentations, write reports, and develop proposal scopes with level of effort estimates.
- Task-level responsibility for project teams, mentoring and quality assurance / quality control activities for hydraulic modeling and master planning projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina
- MS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in utility hydraulic modeling and infrastructure engineering design
- Knowledge and experience with wastewater collection system and/or water distribution system hydraulic modeling software
- Willing to learn and grow technical and professional skills to meet client and market needs
- Excellent communication skills and thrive working in a team environment
- Prior experience leading teams, managing projects, assisting with project budgeting
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, mapping and analysis
- Experience working for a public, municipal, or investor-owned water and/or wastewater utility, public works department, or engineering consulting firm is beneficial
- Experience working with clients in North Carolina and South Carolina
- Local candidates are preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field
- Previous experience executing technical studies, analyses, and/or designing and creating plans and specifications for water focused projects
- PE or P.Eng license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered
- Ability to make independent decisions and be accountable for the results
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and with a project team to completion of a task
