OpportunityThe New Nuclear Development group provides engineering, procurement, construction and project management support at the early stages of new nuclear projects. Projects may involve small modular reactors (SMR) or large-scale nuclear. Tasks include estimating, technology assessments, constructability reviews, schedule development, contract development, and other activities required by clients in early project development. Projects can involve Aecon-only work or Joint Venture partnerships, and may be located in Canada, the US, or internationally.
The Project Director role may transition into the execution team outside the NND organization.
The Project Director reports to the VP, US Operations and shall be accountable for the following responsibilities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Lead a multidisciplinary team across project controls, operations, finance, LR, etc.
- Proactively improve execution through innovation, lessons learned, and productivity improvement.
- Manage interactions with challenging clients, maintaining positive relationships, resolving conflicts, and achieving desired outcomes.
- Collaborate with partners from different organizations to achieve common goals, leveraging diverse expertise and resources.
- Develop an appropriate execution organization capable of executing major new build nuclear construction projects.
- Leverage high-level executive management experience to build, manage, and sustain a high-performing business and deliver profitable growth.
- Apply significant experience and understanding of the Nuclear Industry, including owner and contractor requirements.
- BSc in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 20+ years of experience in planning and managing major capital projects, ideally large-scale nuclear projects.
- Understanding of Nuclear Safety Culture & INPO principles; experience in highly regulated construction environments, preferably the nuclear market.
- Project management, contract management, and risk management expertise.
- Appreciation for Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.
- Familiarity with nuclear designs, systems, reactor generations, materials, and maintenance (desired).
- Experience with construction strategy, methods, and project fundamentals (crucial).
- Knowledge of key players and existing relationships within the nuclear sector.
- Exhibit high-level executive management exposure to drive profitable growth.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of the Nuclear Industry and its owners/contractors requirements.
