This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Intermediate Professional – Structural Engineer for our Charlotte office. WSP works closely with owners, architects, and contractors from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability of the built environment. Be involved in projects with our Property & Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Our Charlotte, North Carolina team evaluates, designs, and rehabilitates commercial, industrial, and military buildings and hydraulic structures. This work focuses on building rehabilitation/preservation and includes performing field work to document the structure, performing structural analysis/design, developing construction documents, and providing construction administration services. We work extensively with the US Department of Defense including the Air Force, Army Corps of Engineers, Defense Logistics Agency and other federal government agencies.

Impact
  • Perform basic structural engineering work to evaluate, design, and repair buildings and infrastructure in conformance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Assist with the development of structural calculations and Revit models to determine future-ready solutions.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports, structural design documents (drawings and specifications), calculation packages, cost estimates, and presentations.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary investigations and repair designs of existing structures.
  • Assist with project research, analysis, and modeling.
  • Perform non-destructive and destructive testing; on-site documentation; and construction observations.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) Certification.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work‑related issues.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Familiar with relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non‑engineering audience.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with architectural and engineering software including AutoCAD, Revit, Revu.
  • Experience with finite element analysis and design software such as STAAD, RISA 3D, RAM, Enercalc, and Tekla Tedds.
  • Ability to perform field work and to work at heights.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
