The Opportunity

In this role you will:

  • Lead the delivery of design‑only, design‑build, and construction‑only projects in Electrical Engineering for Data Centers.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise in Data Center design.
  • Train and develop early‑career or inexperienced professionals.
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers on Data Center projects.
  • Build business relationships with clients.
  • Engage in client‑facing/business development activities.
  • Support business development: scope‑of‑work, level‑of‑effort, site visits.
  • Continuously develop technical expertise.

This role will primarily support North American projects. Candidates may be located near any Black & Veatch U.S. regional office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and B&V policies. Own, maintain, update, or develop engineering standards and guides as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with the B&V quality program; promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects; perform research and recommend equipment/materials.
  • Prepare complex engineering calculations; manage budget, schedule, and quality requirements; review lower‑level work.
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams; define project schedules for single or multiple disciplines.
  • Identify and communicate client interests and drivers; develop approaches to address them.
  • Identify future client needs; support business development or pursuit activities.
  • Serve as a technical specialist in a broad or narrow area; support multiple projects on complex technical challenges.
  • Oversee performance management, career planning, recognition, learning, and development for lower‑ and mid‑level professionals.
Management Responsibilities

Supervises work of others and is responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of subordinates.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 11 years of related work experience.
  • Active engineering registration or licensure supporting engineer‑of‑record requirements; U.S. Professional Engineer license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Previous Project Lead experience in Data Center Designs.
  • Understanding of design risk factors for redundancy and resiliency.
  • Understanding of design differences in hyper‑scale, edge, and colocation data centers.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and custom family creation in Autodesk Revit.
  • Familiarity with Data Center tier rating systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience with BIM 360, Navisworks, Revit work sets, view templates, and project phasing.
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment.
  • Self‑motivated with strong project management skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to analyze and leverage data and metrics to challenge assumptions.
  • Professional communication skills for client engagement.
  • Strong leadership skills and desire to mentor early‑career professionals.
Certifications
  • Active engineering registration or licensure supporting engineer‑of‑record requirements (U.S. Professional Engineer license).
Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion and work assignments.
