Senior P & C Designer

What You Will Do

GFT is seeking an experienced Substation P & C Designer to join our expanding Power Group. You can work remotely or in a hybrid arrangement in our Charlotte, NC or Roanoke, VA offices.

• Design and execution of high‑voltage substation projects in the 4 kV–765 kV range with an emphasis on safety, cost, quality, and reliability.
• Generate designs and detailed engineering deliverables under the supervision of a lead engineer and project manager.
• Complete basic engineering calculations related to design deliverables.
• Develop one‑ and three‑line diagrams; schematics and wiring diagrams; control and relay panel layout and specifications; SCADA system interfaces including RTUs, HMIs, IEDs; and auxiliary system design.
• Compile and quote relay and control material lists for substation projects per contractual agreements with customers.
• Follow supervisor instructions for complex design assignments applying standard principles and practices.
• Investigate technical drawings and conditions to ensure compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
• Travel to job sites for project assessment and data gathering as needed.
• Communicate and interact with clients.
• Perform quality reviews of peer‑completed projects.

• 5+ years of relevant substation or general electrical T&D designing experience.
• Proficient in computer‑aided drafting using AutoCAD or Micro Station.
• Knowledge of NESC, NEC, and IEEE codes.
• Knowledge of substation voltages (MV, HV, EHV).
• Ability to schedule and complete tasks within project budget and timeline.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to review project documents and recommend value‑engineering ideas.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

• Experience in the energy industry or a consulting services environment.
• Thorough knowledge of NESC, NEC, and IEEE codes.

The salary range for this role is $85,000–$100,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
