Electrical Field Services Engineer

Electrical Field Services Engineer – Alabama Technical Shared Services (TSS) - Electrical Systems & Field Support This position will be located at Plant Barry, Bucks Alabama JOB SUMMARY The purpose of this job is to provide technical services in the electrical discipline to fossil, gas and renewable generating facilities within the Southern Company. These services include but are not limited to problem resolution, routine testing, design review, checkout and startup of new equipment, technical consulting, and unplanned/emergency callouts (after hours).

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS (LOCATION & TRAVEL)

• This position will be under TSS within the Technical Services – Electrical Systems & Field Support department.
• This position will be based at Plant Barry and will support multiple generation site locations to include:
  Barry, Theodore, Washington County.
• Occasional overnight travel will be required – approximately 25%.
• JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.

• Customer oriented work ethic.
• Broad general knowledge of power plant systems.
• Proficiency in excitation system calibration and problem resolution.
• Proficiency in low, medium, and high voltage switch gear concepts and designs.
• Proficiency in switch gear electrical control and applications.
• Working knowledge of protective relaying application and philosophy.
• Ability to communicate with plant employees at all working and management levels.
• Ability to manage time properly and handle multiple assignments simultaneously.

• Maintain technical proficiency in the above mentioned areas.
• Cultivate and maintain contacts and relationships within the plant.
• Establish a precedent for solving technical problems in a timely and cost effective manner.
• Be a role model both technically and in dealing with customers for other engineers.
• Maintain an awareness of the financial impact of Technical Services' support.
• Take an active role in the development of new employees.
