The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for maintaining and reporting the operational financial standard costing processes, data analysis and variances, as well as supporting the Corporate Controller and finance team with month‑end processes, budgeting, forecasting, reporting and projects. The position serves as a finance resource, and partner, for Operations and works closely with the SVP of Operations, Operations Managers and internal teams that work with standard costing processes to ensure plant financial data is connected to plant reality and is reflected in financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities- Manage, perform, and analyze standard cost accounting updates, inventory controls, month‑end processing, and manufacturing variance analysis
- Support ERP and system initiatives, with a particular focus on JD Edwards
- Act as the liaison between Operations, Finance, and IT for JDE development projects
- Create and/or modify reports from JDE data to support financial analysis
- Analyze integrity reports to ensure item transactions and inventory are clean
- Assist with validation of data and metrics for Power
BI developers - Accounting Weekly/Month end processes
- Monthly bill of materials review and adjustment
- Monthly inventory reconciliation and adjustment
- Monthly inter‑company reconciliation and adjustment
- Weekly scrap report to Operations
- Other tasks as assigned
- Assist Corporate Controller by providing support to use in financial reporting and analysis for the leadership team, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities
- Some travel is required to the plants to build relationships with operations leaders, ensuring alignment between operational activity and financial reporting
- Support Corporate Controller with budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning for manufacturing operations
- Provide detailed analysis of operational KPIs, cost drivers, and variances to guide decision‑making
- Assist SVP of Operations and Corporate Controller in driving process improvements within operational finance, ensuring consistency across multiple plant locations
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- 5+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, with significant time spent in a standard cost manufacturing environment, overseeing cost processes for multiple plant locations
- Strong expertise in standard costing, inventory management, month‑end closing processes, and manufacturing variance analysis
- Proficiency with JD Edwards ERP; experience with other major ERPs is a plus
- Strong communication skills, with proven ability to translate operational activity into financial insights for senior leadership
- Excellent analytical skills, with a hands‑on, process‑driven approach rather than a focus on people management
- Must be able to collaborate effectively across operations and finance teams, utilizing Microsoft Teams and One Drive (or other cloud‑based file sharing)
