Industry Credit Lead – Asset Backed Finance

The Industry Credit Lead is responsible for maintaining visibility over the full commercial loan portfolio and team within a specific industry (or industries) and advising the credit professionals that support that team. As a leader within the Credit organization, the Industry Credit Lead handles escalations and provides support for all Portfolio Manager/Underwriter and Portfolio Manager/Underwriter Team Lead responsibilities, reviewing deals and meeting with the Coverage Team and Clients as needed.

The Industry Credit Lead is expected to have advanced expertise in Credit underwriting, portfolio management, and the regulatory environment as it relates to Credit within associated industry. Additionally, the Industry Credit Lead should demonstrate leadership capabilities, with the ability to effectively manage teams and their associated workflow. An advanced understanding of customer needs with the ability to work with internal partners to drive customer loyalty and expand the use of Fifth Third Bank's products and services is also expected.

The role is responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with Corporate Banking Group Head to understand the business strategy and pipeline for the industry.
  • Maintain a view of the full industry portfolio.
  • Define the Coverage Team by identifying the appropriate credit partner.
  • Meet with prospective clients as needed.
  • Assess viability of the client and/or transaction prior to term sheet.
  • Review deal structures and approve term sheets.
  • Facilitate discussions with Credit Officers and support Portfolio Managers/Underwriters in discussions with RMs as needed.
  • Handle escalations and provide support for all Portfolio Manager/Underwriter and Portfolio Manager/Underwriter Team Lead responsibilities.
  • Advise credit team of Fifth Third Bank's overall lending policy.
  • Establish workflow priorities within the industry portfolio.
  • Provide ongoing management, coaching, training, and education for assigned staff of Credit professionals, to include Portfolio Managers, Underwriters, Team Leads and Credit Analysts.
  • Provide performance reviews for Portfolio Managers and Portfolio Manager Team Leads as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Industry Credit Lead supervises Portfolio Managers/Underwriters and Portfolio Manager/Underwriter Team Leads (as needed) within Industry team. Responsible for providing employees timely, candid and constructive performance feedback; developing employees to their fullest potential and provide challenging opportunities that enhance employee career growth; developing the appropriate talent pool to ensure adequate bench strength and succession planning; recognizing and rewarding employees for accomplishments.

MINIMUM

KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in Business required, Advanced degree preferred (e.g. Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Commercial Banking that includes Asset Backed Finance
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial lending credit policies and guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of banking products and services.
  • Expertise in financial and risk analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of corporate business structure and legal documents.
  • General knowledge of U.S. government and regulation.
  • Knowledge of the requisite industry preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency in internal banking applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office software.
