Overview

Assistant Controller - Hybrid in Charlotte

The Assistant Controller supports financial reporting, treasury, funding, and loan-level accounting for a mortgage company. This role ensures accurate GAAP reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with investor and warehouse requirements, while partnering cross-functionally across Capital Markets, Funding, Servicing, FP&A, and Risk. The position also includes managing and developing accounting staff.

• Lead components of monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and income statement analysis.
• Oversee loan-level accounting from funding through sale, including gain-on-sale, fees, reserves, premiums/discounts, and servicing assets/liabilities.
• Partner with Capital Markets on loan sale settlements, pricing impacts, and investor cash application.
• Manage warehouse line activity, including fundings, paydowns, interest/fee posting, covenant reporting, and liquidity analysis.
• Prepare and present internal financial reporting to senior leadership.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff; ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to controls.
• Support internal/external audits and strengthen accounting and treasury controls.
• Drive process improvements and system enhancements across LOS, servicing platforms, and GL systems.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of accounting experience in mortgage lending or financial services.
• Prior experience leading or managing staff is preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills; strong PowerPoint and financial reporting capabilities.
• Strong knowledge of loan accounting, warehouse lending, and treasury operations.
