The S/4 HANA ABAP Technical Consultant will be responsible for delivering high-quality technical solutions across SAP S/4 HANA systems, including ABAP development, troubleshooting, performance optimization, integrations, and supporting key business processes. This role requires extensive experience in SAP ABAP, strong debugging capabilities, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues while meeting SLA requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Identify and resolve complex technical issues within agreed service-level timelines
- Translate business requirements into high-quality technical designs and ABAP objects
- Work effectively under pressure, including during system outages
- Collaborate with multiple teams for troubleshooting and problem resolution
- Conduct working sessions with business users
- Understand SAP S/4 HANA, IBP, ECC, APO, GTS tables, data elements, and interdependencies
- Work with Basis teams for troubleshooting and system-level support
- Research, apply, and implement SAP OSS Notes
- Use tools such as Service Now, Focused Build, Solution Manager, ALM, and Planview
- Support break/fix operations and contribute to project work
- Participate in on-call rotation as required
- Meet SLA and IT performance metrics
- Follow Corning coding guidelines and standards with minimal supervision
- Develop, document, and test ABAP programs and enhancements
- Provide technical support and guidance during implementation phases
- Review technical deliverables for quality and roadmap alignment
- Develop technical specifications, perform coding, and complete unit testing
- Support RTP, PTP, OTC, and RTR processes (EWM and QAR are a plus)
- 8+ years ABAP development experience including Reports, Interfaces, CDS Views, OData (SEGW, CDS, BOPF, RAP), Enhancements, Adobe Forms, EDI, IDocs
- Strong object-oriented programming skills
- Expertise with new ABAP syntax
- Highly proficient in debugging complex SAP and web-based programs
- Knowledge of multi-system landscape architectures
- Experience with performance tuning and optimization
- Experience configuring, activating, and debugging standard OData and SOAP APIs
- Experience in ABAP Cloud and Fiori development using RAP
- Experience in side-by-side extensions
- Experience with rapid development using SAP Joule and AI-based enhancement features
- Experience with embedded steampunk / ABAP Cloud
- Strong understanding of “clean core” principles and implementation best practices
- Experience with system upgrades, SPDD, SPAU, and custom code remediation
- SAP EWM and RF programming experience
- Experience with SAP BTP tools: BPA, Integration Suite, Build Apps, API Management, Event Mesh
- Experience with S/4 HANA 2023 or higher
- Deep understanding of SAP ABAP best practices
- Experience with SAP MDG
- Experience with data extraction using traditional and CDS extractors
