Junior API Engineer

Brooksource is seeking a Junior API Engineer to join our enterprise banking partner’s API Platform Team. This team builds and manages backend APIs that power customer authentication, account information retrieval, and multiple integrated applications. The APIs are hosted in a secure AWS environment, supporting high-volume transactions and critical banking operations.

As a Junior API Engineer, you will work on API development and infrastructure, assist with proxy migrations (Apigee to Kong), and contribute to building resilient backend services. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment, ensuring secure, scalable, and efficient API solutions.

• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs supporting authentication and customer data services.
• Assist in API proxy migration from Apigee to Kong and manage integrations across enterprise platforms.
• Support AWS deployments and infrastructure automation using Terraform for Lambda functions and related services.
• Collaborate with UI teams to ensure seamless integration between backend APIs and front-end applications.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups, sprint retrospectives) and contribute to CI/CD pipeline improvements.

• Proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript for backend API development.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Exposure to AWS services and understanding of cloud deployment concepts.
• Basic knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git/Git Hub).
• Strong communication skills for cross-team collaboration and demos.

• Familiarity with Terraform scripting for infrastructure automation.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS Lambda and related services.
• Knowledge of API management tools (Apigee, Kong).
• Exposure to AI concepts (ChatGPT, Claude) and understanding of emerging technologies.

• Work on mission‑critical APIs that power customer authentication and banking operations.
• Gain hands‑on experience with AWS cloud technologies, API management, and infrastructure automation.
