The EDS IT Organization is seeking a results-oriented individual with strong execution and leadership skills for the role of a Release Train Engineer to support Global Specialty. This role is to play a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train (ART). The role is considered the Chief Scrum Master who facilitates program-level processes and program execution, escalates impediments, manages risk, and helps drive program-level continuous improvement.
In addition to facilitating program events, RTEs keep both scrum team members and business and technology leaders apprised of progress against objectives.
- Servant leader who facilitates and coaches 1 Agile Release Train (ART) in Scrum Principles and best practices, depending on line of business
- Organizes and facilitates agile processes at the program level, including planning periodic reviews and planning sessions with team and product stakeholders, such as ART Sync, Release Planning, System Demos & Solution Demos, the Inspect & Adapt Workshops, and the Scrum of Scrums
- Ensures all teams in the ART adhere to established governance models
- Serves as a liaison between agile teams and all project stakeholders
- Provides information regarding ART health (people, process, progress and overall satisfaction) to Technology and Business Leaders
- Works with product managers and development teams to assure requirements are captured and recorded using agile methodology
- Partners with Product Managers, AVPs and VPs of IT Management, the Lean Portfolio Manager, and other leaders to prioritize and refine program backlogs based on business value
- Coaches teams to function self-sufficiently by imparting agile principles and servant leadership
- Understands and communicates the business value of new work
- Manages and negotiates key stakeholders within their ART, other ARTs, and business leadership (e.g., BOs)
- Is skilled at conflict‑resolution practices and principles to promote teamwork
- Has ability to analyze ART metrics in Rally to improve execution and business value delivery
- Significantly contributes to the RTE Community of Practice
- Is adept at resolving work blockages seamlessly, while shielding teams from outside distractions
- Regularly leads agile change‑management activities across the business
- Assesses maturity of the ART and coaches teams to higher levels
- Builds a trusted environment where problems can be raised without blame or retribution, with an emphasis on teamwork and problem solving
- Coaches individuals to deepen skills on root‑cause and other analysis; often mentors Scrum Masters
- 5+ years of Agile experience (3+ years as RTE in an ART)
- Bachelor’s degree required
- RTE and/or SPC Certification preferred
- Experience in the insurance industry preferred
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and frameworks such as Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc.
- Experience with agile lifecycle management tools (e.g., Rally, JIRA)
- Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams strongly preferred
- Strong collaboration and influence skills, including ability to manage and negotiate with multiple stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand audiences, tailor messages and influence outcomes
- Experience working with business‑level OKR/KPIs
- Proven experience mentoring junior APOs and significantly contributing to a product management community of practice
- Self‑motivated individual with demonstrated ability to handle multiple high‑priority demands, manage expectations and achieve objectives independently
- Experience with ADKAR or other change‑management frameworks strongly preferred
- Experience with portfolio and budget accountabilities preferred
