Principal Enterprise Architect Lead

The Principal Enterprise Architect Lead provides visionary leadership to advance enterprise-wide architecture across business, application, data, technology, and security domains. This role ensures alignment of architecture practices with Novant Health’s strategic priorities—growth, clinical innovation, operational excellence, and digital transformation.

Schedule: 8:00AM – 5:00PM (On call support required, as needed).

Location: Charlotte, NC (Must live within 50 miles of Charlotte)

Department: IT Architecture Innovation and Growth

• Translate strategic objectives into future-state architecture roadmaps and actionable blueprints covering business capabilities, application landscapes, data models, and technical infrastructure.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to business, clinical, and IT leaders, guiding decisions on major investments, platform modernization, and enterprise transformation initiatives.
• Provide oversight and mentorship to Solution Architects, ensuring delivery consistency, technical excellence, and strategic alignment across all solution designs.
• Drive enterprise architecture governance and standards to enable scalability, interoperability, and security.

• Proven experience in enterprise architecture leadership within complex organizations.
• Expertise in business architecture, application design, data modeling, technology platforms, and security frameworks.
• Strong ability to influence executive stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with digital health, cloud technologies, and modernization strategies is highly desirable.

Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 4-Year/Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field, required. 4-Year/Bachelor’s Degree MBA, MHA, MS in Informatics or related, preferred.

Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise architecture, IT strategy, solution design, or digital transformation—preferably in healthcare or other regulated industries, required.

Additional Skills (required): Demonstrated experience designing and delivering enterprise-wide architecture frameworks, models, and roadmaps. Strong knowledge of architecture frameworks and tools such as TOGAF, SAFe, BIZBOK, Archi Mate, LeanIX, Bizzdesign, or Signavio. Experience working in or alongside Agile teams, preferably within a SAFe or hybrid delivery model. Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build trust across business and IT leadership.

Additional Skills (preferred): Certifications such as TOGAF®, Certified Business Architect (CBA®), SAFe® Architect, or similar. Familiarity with hybrid cloud platforms, digital front-door strategies, enterprise cybersecurity, and data governance. Experience supporting large-scale enterprise initiatives such as cloud migrations, M&A integrations, ERP modernization, or digital health platform deployments.
