Overview
Primary Talent Partners has a new contract opening for a Front End Developer with our large power and utilities client in Charlotte, NC. This is a 12-month contract with a potential for extension.
Pay: 65.00 - 75.00/hr; W2 contract, no PTO, no Benefits. ACA-compliant supplemental package available for enrollment. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must be able to sit on Primary Talent Partners W2 without sponsorship.
DescriptionWe are seeking a Design System Engineer who brings excellence in frontend engineering, design system stewardship, automation, and emerging AI assisted development practices. This role operates at the intersection of design, engineering, and platform automation, helping scale the delivery and maintenance of our design system across React, Angular, and future platforms.
You will play a key role in modernizing how the company builds, tests, documents, and deploys UI components. We are looking for someone who is genuinely interested in using AI to improve and accelerate workflows—such as generating component variations, automating documentation and testing, and ensuring consistency across components.
This role is highly collaborative, working closely with product designers, platform engineers, accessibility champions, and product teams across the enterprise. You should bring a strong engineering mindset, an eye for design quality, and a passion for building scalable, automated systems that enable hundreds of developers and designers.
Responsibilities Component Engineering and Framework Support- Build, test, and maintain high-quality design system components in React and Angular.
- Establish patterns that scale across frameworks and versions to ensure consistency, accessibility, and performance.
- Create automated pipelines that can generate component variants, documentation, test cases, and quality checks.
- Use AI tools to streamline component creation, code generation, documentation, visual regression checks, and accessibility validation.
- Experiment with modern AI tools to reduce manual work while improving development speed and reliability.
- Recommend and implement AI-powered improvements to versioning, release management, dependency updates, and cross framework consistency.
- Build, maintain and improve automation and AI tools that help blur the lines between design and code.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines that support publishing, versioning, and automated testing of design system components.
- Work closely with Product Designers, Product Managers, and Frontend Engineers to ensure components align with evolving product needs.
- Participate in reviews and technical discussions about component architecture and system improvements.
- Provide technical guidance to teams implementing design system components.
- Create and maintain clear and complete documentation that supports consistent adoption of the design system.
- Develop usage guidelines and developer friendly tooling to ensure components are easy to consume across React, Angular, and other platforms.
- Contribute to workflow automation that improves efficiency and reduces manual effort during component development, testing, and deployment.
- Contribute to the long-term roadmap for the design system, including new components, modernization efforts, and automation opportunities.
- Help define API patterns, versioning guidelines, and processes for managing breaking changes.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security standards, and accessibility guidelines.
- Ensure all components meet WCAG accessibility standards and follow semantic HTML best practices.
- Verify strong performance across devices, platforms, and assistive technologies.
- Promote accessible, inclusive, and high-quality user experiences across the design system.
- Develop applications and UI components that support inclusive access for people with disabilities, including compliance with assistive technologies.
