Starburst Engineer

10 is currently seeking a Starburst Engineer for a contract position with a Global Financial Institution located in Charlotte, NC. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity.

We are seeking an experienced Starburst Engineer with strong hands-on implementation and configuration experience integrating Oracle data sources with Starburst. The ideal candidate will be responsible for configuring Starburst connectivity to Oracle databases, enabling federated SQL access to Oracle schemas, tables, and views, and supporting data querying and retrieval through the Starburst platform. This role requires practical experience with Starburst catalogs and connectors, Oracle connectivity, SQL troubleshooting, and Dev Ops practices.

Responsibilities:

• Implement, configure, and maintain Starburst connectivity to Oracle data sources using Starburst catalogs and Oracle connectors
• Configure Oracle data source connections within Starburst to enable federated SQL access to Oracle schemas, tables, views, and other database objects
• Configure Starburst catalog properties, connection parameters, authentication mechanisms, network connectivity, and access permissions required for Oracle integration
• Develop, execute, and optimize SQL queries in Starburst to retrieve and analyze data residing in Oracle without requiring unnecessary data duplication
• Validate end-to-end connectivity, data accessibility, query execution, and consistency between Starburst and the underlying Oracle source
• Troubleshoot Starburst and Oracle integration issues, including connection failures, authentication errors, SQL execution problems, query performance, and connector configuration
• Implement and support Dev Ops processes for Starburst, including configuration management, deployment automation, environment setup, version control, and release management
• Collaborate with database administrators, infrastructure engineers, and application teams to resolve connectivity, configuration, performance, and operational issues
• Monitor Starburst query execution and platform health, identify performance bottlenecks, and apply configuration improvements to support reliable data access
• Document Starburst implementation procedures, Oracle connectivity configurations, deployment processes, and troubleshooting guidelines

Requirements:

• Proven hands-on experience implementing and configuring Starburst Enterprise or Starburst Galaxy, including production-ready connectivity to external data sources
• Strong experience integrating Starburst with Oracle databases using Oracle connectors and Starburst catalog configurations
• Experience configuring Starburst catalogs, connector properties, Oracle connection settings, authentication, and network access
• Strong SQL skills, including querying Oracle schemas, tables, and views through Starburst
• Experience troubleshooting Starburst connectivity, catalog configuration, SQL query execution, and data access issues
• Hands-on Dev Ops experience supporting Starburst deployments, configuration management, automation, and environment maintenance
• Understanding of distributed SQL query execution, data federation, and data virtualization concepts
• Ability to independently implement and validate an end-to-end Starburst-to-Oracle integration
• Starburst:
  Implementation, configuration, catalogs, connectors, deployment, troubleshooting, query execution
• Oracle Database:
  Connectivity, schemas, tables, views, authentication, SQL queries
• SQL:
  Query development, execution, troubleshooting, performance optimization
• Dev Ops: CI/CD, deployment automation, configuration management, version control
• Infrastructure:
  Linux, networking, security configuration

Desired skills:

• Experience deploying and operating Starburst in enterprise environments
• Familiarity with Linux, shell scripting, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform or Ansible
• Experience with containerized deployments using Docker or Kubernetes
• Understanding of database security, credential management, access controls, and enterprise data governance
• Experience monitoring and optimizing federated queries against Oracle data sources

Pay range: $55.06 - $63.06 per hour
