Job Description
Title: Chemical Lab Technician
Location: Charlotte, NC
Duration: 0 –12 Months
Shift: 8:
AM – 5:00 PM
Rate: $21.00 - $22.00/Hour
ResponsibilitiesThis lab technical role is focused on supporting technical service efforts within the Resins group, with an emphasis on coatings for metal protection. These coatings may include water‑based and solvent‑based systems and, in some cases, require spray outs in a spray booth onto panels. Under the supervision of chemists and other team members, the technician will regularly perform mixing of materials to create formulations based on guided projects and pre‑determined recipes, conduct tests, interpret and analyze data, compile results and prepare reports, and present conclusions regularly to the scientist/chemist or team leader.
Further responsibilities may include maintaining lab inventory, participating in safety inspections, and site‑based safety programs.
- Use of balances, containment, and proper sample labelling
- Mixing of precisely weighed out materials through overhead mixers
- Use of a high‑shear disperser blade for pigment incorporation
- Using a variety of additives to adjust viscosity, tune flow, wetting behaviour, and minimize foam
- Safe operation of equipment and cleaning of equipment
- Drawdowns of paint via wire rod and drawdown bars
- Use of an HVLP spray gun to apply paint to panels
- Drying panels in an oven
- Wearing a respirator hood and jumpsuit to spray in the spray booth
- Pot‑life testing
- Viscosity measurement
- Gloss measurement

Individual must be able to follow protocols, document findings in an organized fashion, and report findings to technical specialists or the technical manager. The candidate should be familiar with the Microsoft platform of tools.
ExperienceHands‑on lab experience. This position requires comfort working with water‑based and solvent‑based coatings and the ability to wear a respirator hood for spraying paints.
EducationBachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with hands‑on lab experience, OR high school diploma with more than five years of hands‑on lab experience.
