Development Manager

Employment Type: Part-Time (20 hours/week)

Reports to: Executive Director

Location: Charlotte, NC (regular in-person meetings required)

About Feeding Charlotte

Feeding Charlotte is a vibrant food rescue organization addressing food waste and food insecurity in Mecklenburg County. Since our founding in 2019, we’ve partnered with commercial kitchens to rescue surplus, unserved meals and deliver them to nonprofit organizations that serve people facing food insecurity. Our mission is powered by a dedicated network of volunteers and partners committed to reducing food waste and nourishing our community.

Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Development Manager to join our small, dedicated team on a part-time basis. This role will be instrumental in building out and strengthening our fundraising efforts, including grant writing, helping us secure the resources needed to scale our food rescue operations and deepen our community impact. The Development Manager will work closely with the Executive Director and engage directly with donors, partners, and the broader Charlotte community.

This position offers significant growth potential, with the opportunity to transition to full-time as our fundraising program expands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies for individual giving, corporate partnerships, foundation grants, and special events to meet annual fundraising goals.
  • Research, write, and submit compelling grant proposals and reports in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward donor relationships, including prospect research and personalized outreach.
  • Manage donor database, track contributions, and ensure timely acknowledgments and recognition.
  • Support community engagement initiatives, such as donor tours, volunteer events, and the Food Sustainability Summit.
  • Assist with marketing and communications to highlight our impact and inspire support.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or related fields (grant writing and donor relations preferred).
  • Proven success in securing gifts, grants, or sponsor ships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to craft persuasive narratives and grant applications.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with a community-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency in donor management software (e.g., Bloomerang, Donor Perfect) and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace.
  • Self‑motivated, organized, and able to thrive in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Passion for our mission of fighting hunger and reducing food waste.
Why Join Us?

You’ll play a pivotal role in fueling Feeding Charlotte’s growth during an exciting time, working hands‑on with leadership and making tangible differences in lives across Charlotte. This part‑time role offers flexibility, meaningful work, and clear potential to evolve into a full‑time position as we expand.
