Primary ResponsibilitiesLicensed Practical Nurses deliver direct patient care in various healthcare settings, focusing on basic nursing functions such as medication administration, vital sign monitoring, wound care, and patient education. They work as part of a healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe, compassionate, and effective care. KeyDuties and Responsibilities
Monitor and record patient vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration)
Administer prescribed medications via oral, topical, and injection routes
Perform basic wound care, dressing changes, and catheter care
Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, eating, mobility)
Collect specimens for laboratory testing
Observe and report changes in patient condition to supervising RN or physician
Patient Monitoring and AssessmentConduct routine health assessments and screenings
Monitor patient responses to treatments and medications
Recognize and report signs of complications or adverse reactions
Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and observations
Assist with diagnostic procedures and tests
Medication AdministrationPrepare and administer medications according to physician orders
Verify patient identity and medication accuracy using safety protocols
Monitor patients for medication side effects and therapeutic responses
Maintain medication records and inventory
Educate patients about medication purposes and side effects
Patient Education and SupportProvide basic health education to patients and families
Teach patients about disease management and self-care techniques
Offer emotional support and comfort to patients and families
Assist with discharge planning and follow-up care instructions
Promote patient safety and infection control practices
Documentation and CommunicationMaintain detailed patient records and care plans
Document all nursing interventions and patient responses
Communicate effectively with healthcare team members
Participate in shift reports and team meetings
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies
Equipment and Supply ManagementOperate and maintain basic medical equipment
Ensure proper sterilization and cleaning of equipment
Monitor and order supplies as needed
Maintain clean and organized work environment
Education and Licensing RequirementsRequired QualificationsCurrent state licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse
Current BLS certification
Clear background check and drug screening
