Registered Nurse - Endocrinology South Park
General
Job Summary:
Responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients including assessment, treatment, care planning, and medical care evaluation by following established standards and practices. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physicians. This full‑time position supports the Endocrinology team Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm with a half day on Thursday 8 am to 1 pm.
Job Responsibilities
- Obtain patient consent and ensure confidentiality.
- Document health history, chief complaint, vital signs, and assess disease condition.
- Provide patient care based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state regulations.
- Execute prescribed treatments, administer medications, and monitor progress.
- Delegate care as allowed under the Nurse Practice Act; refer or consult physicians and other health providers.
- Educate patients and families about health status, maintenance, and acute/chronic condition management.
- Document assessments and interventions using established electronic medical record systems.
- Track quality assurance data and monitor acute and chronic care management.
- Maintain and review patient records.
- Order entry with EHR; manage IV fluids and prior authorizations.
- Serve as point person for emergencies and triage walk‑ins (e.g., chest pain, hypoglycemia, syncope).
- Participate in code blue as necessary.
- Handle medication refills and patient education on insulin/MDI use.
- Assist medical assistants to maintain patient flow.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- First escalation point for telephone calls and messages received by the Medical Assistant; conduct short evaluations to estimate severity.
- Direct patients to appropriate care sites: provider office, urgent care, or ER as indicated.
- Provide home health advice for non‑urgent cases and ensure accurate notes in the clinical computer system.
- Arrange appointments and consult with physicians when needed.
- Respond to routine information requests from patients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education and
Certifications: - RN degree; BSN preferred.
- Current state registered nurse license.
- Current CPR certificate and BLS certification.
- ACLS certification if required by role.
- Completion of Hepatitis B vaccine, flu vaccine, and TB test (vaccine decline form may be submitted).
- Experience:
- Minimum one year of professional nursing experience; clinic experience preferred.
- Experience with EHR utilization.
- Customer service experience in person and on the phone.
- Physical Requirements:
- Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.
- Must be able to lift and support 35 pounds.
- Ability to concentrate on details and use computer for long periods.
