The department serves a population exceeding one million residents and serves the City of Charlotte, six towns, and the unincorporated areas of the county covering 523 square miles. In addition, the department manages over 21,000 acres and 230+ parks, nature preserves, greenways and facilities. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is looking for a Temporary Grounds Maintenance & Operations Assistant to join our team! This position will be based within our Central Park Region and will perform day‑to‑day maintenance activities to support our parks, facility areas, and greenway system Trailheads. This includes but is not limited to debris cleanup and landscaping. The incumbent will also assist our maintenance team with other basic, routine custodial, building, and grounds maintenance tasks.
The selected candidate will be an integral member of our team in ensuring our parks and facilities continue to be optimal sites for community events and recreation. This schedule of this position will be dependent on business needs but may include weekdays and occasional weekends.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Grounds maintenance experience
- Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans
- Move and aid in moving furniture or equipment and large and bulky objects
- Perform building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, and unstopping toilets
- Perform general custodial work
- Perform general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, shoveling snow and mowing the grass
- Perform general laborer‑type work such as digging ditches

- Licenses/Certifications:
Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges - Computer
