Position: Environmental Geologist 1

Environmental Geologist 1 at HDR

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Geologist 1 to join our dynamic team of environmental professionals. This role is ideal for early-career professionals looking to grow their technical and field experience in environmental consulting. The successful candidate will support a variety of projects including site assessments, environmental investigations, remediation efforts, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will have environmental experience, be willing to travel, and be able to work across multiple HDR departments to build relationships and take control of your career trajectory.

Responsibilities
  • Follow prescribed procedures and detailed instructions, conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations and assist in the preparation of service deliverable documents
  • Perform routine scientist assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures on projects that have clear, specified objectives and limited variables
  • Work independently on small projects or assist more-senior scientists on larger projects
  • Give direction to clerical and technical personnel as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

This position is subject to a preemployment drug test.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Willingness to travel and perform fieldwork in varying conditions
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Familiarity with field apparatus/techniques including water level meters, pumps, field-screening equipment, various drilling techniques, etc.
  • Experience with GIS, CAD, or environmental software (e.g., Surfer, MODFLOW, Aqutesolv, gINT)
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA)
  • Progress toward or interest in pursuing GIT or PG licensure
  • Prior experience with fieldwork a plus but not required
  • Experience preparing technical reports, well diagrams, and boring logs a plus but not required
  • Local candidates preferred
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Science, Hydrogeology or closely related field
  • Ability to assess and classify soil and rock samples to determine geologic type
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures)
  • May require ability to travel
