Trades ​/ Skilled Labor Operator, Heavy Equipment Operator

Overview

HEI Civil is a top heavy civil construction company with operations in Colorado, Carolinas, and Texas. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Operator to join our team. We focus on safety, people, quality, and production, tackling projects ranging from roadways and bridges to water infrastructure and environmental restoration.

Position details reflect typical responsibilities and qualifications for a Motor Equipment Operator role.

• Operate equipment in adherence to safety policies, procedures, job site rules, and traffic laws.
• Maintain 3 points of contact on all pieces of equipment at all times.
• Respond to signals and directions from other crew members and work in coordination with them.
• Perform daily walk-around checks and complete the daily checklist.
• Clean and maintain equipment.
• Perform routine inspections on assigned equipment and report any needed repairs to the supervisor.
• Attend daily safety meetings with the crew and report any safety violations or incidents to the supervisor or safety department.
• When not operating heavy equipment, perform other duties as assigned by Foreman.

• Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
• Excellent hand–eye–foot coordination.
• Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures.
• Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, plans, maintenance instructions, and operating procedures.
• Comfort working in a team-oriented environment.

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 5+ years of experience operating a main line machine.

• Must have physical strength and endurance; may involve prolonged periods of sitting in a machine.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds at times.
• Repetitive hand/arm/leg movements with exposure to high-stress environments and extreme weather fluctuations.
