Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform installation and service of low voltage category cabling, fiber optic cabling, communications cabling, communication equipment and other low voltage related systems such as Category 3, Category 5, Enhanced Category 5, Category 6 and Fiber Optic Structured Cable Distribution Systems.
- Evaluate, diagnose, troubleshoot cabling infrastructure systems and perform repairs as necessary.
- Perform upgrades and additions to cabling infrastructure systems to increase functionality and usability.
- Travel usually within a 2‑hour radius of Charlotte (but could be more) to customer locations in NC performing service work as needed. Position pays for travel time.
- Manage work tickets according to customer SLA’s using Service Now ticketing system.
- Execute basic computer tasks such as Microsoft 365, Web Ex, Putty, Wireshark.
- Be available when the work is requested—early mornings or late evenings Mon‑Sat and sometimes Sunday with advanced notice; most work is Mon‑Fri 7am‑7pm.
- Participate in a paid rotating on‑call schedule with other technicians.
- Handle up to 40 hours per week (not guaranteed). Coordinate with other Team Members within North American Commercial Services (NACS) Operations to complete projects/work orders efficiently.
- Inform operations management about procedures and/or status of work orders to comply with OSHA regulations.
- Complete required documentation (time reporting, work order progress, billing, etc.) per company standards.
- Request equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure availability of required items.
- Respond to emergency situations during or after hours to resolve immediate client concerns and meet SLAs.
- Transport tools, equipment, supplies, etc. to client sites as needed.
- Attend meetings, workshops, training, and seminars for knowledge exchange.
- Achieve performance targets established by leadership for Key Performance Indicators.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Associate degree or certification in a technology services/technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience installing, servicing, and maintaining low voltage cable infrastructure such as Category 3, Category 5, Enhanced Category 5, Category 6 and Fiber Optic Structured Cable Distribution Systems.
- Proven ability to install, terminate & test low voltage cables & fiber optic cables (twisted pair, coax, power limited tray cable, stranded & solid conductor low voltage cable, single mode & multimode fiber).
- Industry and manufacturer specific experience and/or certifications preferred (e.g., BICSI, Panduit, Commscope, Siemens, Corning, Leviton, Ortronics, AV, Fiber Optic, Paging).
- Comprehension of terminology for installation & service of cabling infrastructure for telecom, data, security & wireless systems.
- Working knowledge of industry standards including BICSI, ANSI, EIA/TIA, and local and National Electric Code.
- Required healthcare specific certifications and experience as applicable (e.g., infectious control, safety, blood borne pathogens).
- Strong customer/client service orientation with effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Mechanical aptitude, ability to read blueprints, architectural, mechanical, and electrical documents.
- Proven reliability and dependability: completing tasks on time, minimal supervision, punctuality, and communication when tasks cannot be completed on time.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to safely drive company vehicles.
- Heavy Work:
May frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. - Visual Requirements:
Vision, near acuity (20 inches or less), mid‑range, far acuity, peripheral, depth perception, color vision, ability to adjust focus. - Auditory:
Ability to speak and hear for communication. - Motor Coordination:
Sit, use hands, reach, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend as required.
